Ever wondered what it’s like to live in a housing co-operative?

Housing co-operatives are communities where residents collectively manage and govern their housing. Members work together to make decisions about their homes and community, offering an alternative to private rental and home ownership models.

Join us for a guided walking tour of two local co-operatives!

Ningana in Annandale and STUCCO in Newtown have kindly opened their doors to Sydney Cohousing. We’ll get a first-hand look at how residents live, make decisions together, and build shared community outside the private rental and ownership market.

Time: 10:30am – 3:00pm

This is a repeat of a similar event last year. If you missed last year’s walking tour, we’d love to see you at this one! It is a real privilege to be invited into people’s homes and to learn from them.

If you can’t make this one, don’t worry. We are working to organise a repeat later in the year.

Route

📌 10:30am: Meet at Stanmore train station

🚶 20min walk

📌 11:00am: Ningana

For those not walking from the station, we’ll meet you on the corner of Annande and Collins streets.
We will tour Ningana for around 45min

🚶 30min walk

📌 12:30pm: Lunch @ Brewtown

🚶 10min walk

📌 2:00pm: STUCCO

If you’re joining us now, meet at the corner of Fitzroy and Wilson streets in Newtown, on the corner of Hollis Park.
We will tour STUCCO for about an hour.

Macdonaldtown and Newtown train stations are nearby for those returning home via train.

Accessibility

The route is mostly flat, with some gentle inclines and declines, and follows paved concrete footpaths. The walking route is accessible for wheelchair users; however, please note that some areas within the housing co-operatives are not wheelchair accessible.
