SUMMARY:Co-ops walking tour
DESCRIPTION:Ever wondered what it’s like to live in a housing co-operative? \n\n\n\nHousing co-operatives are communities where residents collectively manage and govern their housing. Members work together to make decisions about their homes and community\, offering an alternative to private rental and home ownership models. \n\n\n\nJoin us for a guided walking tour of two local co-operatives! \n\n\n\nNingana in Annandale and STUCCO in Newtown have kindly opened their doors to Sydney Cohousing. We’ll get a first-hand look at how residents live\, make decisions together\, and build shared community outside the private rental and ownership market. \n\n\n\nDate: Friday 4 July (International Day of Co-operatives)Time: 10:30am – 3:00pm \n\n\n\nThis is a repeat of a similar event last year. If you missed last year’s walking tour\, we’d love to see you at this one! It is a real privilege to be invited into people’s homes and to learn from them. \n\n\n\nIf you can’t make this one\, don’t worry. We are working to organise a repeat later in the year. \n\n\n\nRoute \n\n\n\n📌 10:30am: Meet at Stanmore train station \n\n\n\n🚶 20min walk \n\n\n\n📌 11:00am: Ningana \n\n\n\nFor those not walking from the station\, we’ll meet you on the corner of Annande and Collins streets.We will tour Ningana for around 45min \n\n\n\n🚶 30min walk \n\n\n\n📌 12:30pm: Lunch @ Brewtown \n\n\n\n🚶 10min walk \n\n\n\n📌 2:00pm: STUCCO \n\n\n\nIf you’re joining us now\, meet at the corner of Fitzroy and Wilson streets in Newtown\, on the corner of Hollis Park.We will tour STUCCO for about an hour. \n\n\n\nMacdonaldtown and Newtown train stations are nearby for those returning home via train. \n\n\n\nAccessibility \n\n\n\nThe route is mostly flat\, with some gentle inclines and declines\, and follows paved concrete footpaths. The walking route is accessible for wheelchair users; however\, please note that some areas within the housing co-operatives are not wheelchair accessible. \n\n\n\nWe look forward to exploring these unique community housing models together.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a visit to Lennox Street Studios annual open weekend\, followed by drinks at the nearby Carlisle Castle Hotel. \n\n\n\nEvery year\, Lennox Street opens its doors to allow the community in to visit. There will be a lot to see and discuss\, as well as live music we are told! Referred to as ‘Stuccwits’\, its forty\, ever-changing\, residents continually shape and reshape this highly democratic co-operative.  \n\n\n\nEmoh Ruo \n\n\n\nEmoh Ruo has been a working co-op since 1995\, when it was one of the inaugural projects of the Department of Housing’s Local Government and Community Housing scheme. Residents come from all walks of life\, with many working in the arts. \n\n\n\nNingana \n\n\n\nFounded by squatters who discovered and lived on the premises\, the Ningana Housing Collective is one of the few housing organisations that provide affordable housing specifically for single people on low to moderate incomes.
